Last week, I texted friends and Googled “How do you write a freelance writer resume?” I had to update my resume, but I wanted to include my past work experience instead of only writing about my journalism experience.
I separated the places where I am a contributing writer and the places where my work has been published infrequently or syndicated from other publications. I haven’t found that publications regularly call you a contributing writer or a contributor or give you a title. I consider myself to be a contributing writer if I am on a retainer with a publication or write multiple posts each month.
I created Elana Lyn, LLC for my freelance writing and blog, so I listed everything under that on my resume instead of losing valuable resume “real estate” by having one job description for Elana Lyn and one for freelance writing.
