Fitness Files: Fhit Fundamentals Review

If you’re looking for a tough workout in New York City, you should book a class at Fhitting Room. The Fhitting Room is a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) boutique fitness studio in New York City. Studies have shown that as little as 27 minutes of HIIT three times a week produces the same results as 60 minutes of steady-state cardio five times a week. (Talk about a good productivity hack!) The Fhitting Room team recently reached out to tell me about their new Fhit Fundamentals site with videos, images, and tips for doing their signature moves. I like Fhit Fundamentals because it shows you the correct way to do the exercises, and allows you to get a similar workout at home.

The Workout: Last week, I went to another The Fhitting Room class. There are two instructors in every class at The Fhitting Room, meaning you get lots of hands-on instruction…and someone watching to make sure you don’t take a “break.” Each 50-minute class incorporates five components: functional movements, strength training, high-intensity intervals, total body focus, and highly varied exercises. For this class, we warmed up with burpees, high knees, squats, sit-ups, and weight exercises. Then we broke into three groups and did a relay race switching between sit-ups, ergs, ski ergs, kettlebell exercises, hurdle jumps, and the TRX. Oh and we didn’t just do each set once (it’s not amateur hour). We did them all three or four times. The room is always filled with incredibly fit people in trendy workout clothes. I always leave with workout outfit ideas.

What to Wear and Bring: Wear what you’d normally wear to a gym class. Right now my favorite brands are Lululemon and Old Navy. Bring lots of water because it’s quite the workout. You don’t need to bring a lock or toiletries. They have lockers with keypads and fully-stocked bathrooms with Modern Apothecary products, a hair and makeup area, and everything you need to get ready.

What to Expect: The class was hard. Really hard. But it’s energetic, they play great music, there is a friendly atmosphere, and the instructors will motivate you to work your hardest. Unlike a lot of fitness classes in NYC, you get to know the people you workout with because there are a lot of team exercises. You’ll be sore (but happy) the next day.

What are your favorite at-home workouts?

The Fhitting Room team was kind enough to let me take a class for free but this is an honest review.
