5 Good Finds: June 2018

Last month flew by so quickly! Here are five of my favorite finds for June!

Sweat With Kayla: I started doing Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guide again, and I am on my fourth week. The workouts are difficult, but I already feel much stronger. I am excited to see how I feel (and look) at the end of the 12-week program. (If you’re curious about BBG, I’ve written about all of my experiences, including working out with Kayla on the Today Show and interviewing her for Forbes.)

Brooklinen: I went on a press trip to Montauk with Brooklinen and we stayed at Rushmeyer’s, a hotel that feels like a camp ground with cabin-like rooms. I invited one of my best friends and we had so much fun visiting the beach, making friendship bracelets, doing yoga, and making s’mores. I also met the founders of Brooklinen and loved learning about their story and how they built the brand. All of the sheets and towels at Rushmeyer’s are Brooklinen and everything is so soft. I was so excited when they sent me a bedding set!

Younger and The Bold Type: I highly recommend both Younger and The Bold Type. They both portray female friendships really well. Younger is about a 40-year-old mom who wants to get a job after she gets divorced and her daughter goes off to college. She worked in publishing before having her daughter and tries to get jobs again but she doesn’t get hired…until she lies about her age and says she is in her twenties. She becomes an assistant then starts running an imprint with her friend…and always worries that people will find out about her big secret. The Bold Type is about three twenty-something best friends who work at Scarlett magazine, a publication just like Cosmo. It’s not a dramatic show and it’s one of the most realistic shows I watch — I’m re-watching Gossip Girl now —but that’s one of the reasons I like it. I can relate to the women and some of the problems they face like difficult work situations and dating dilemmas. Their strong friendship is also really realistic and, because TV shows and movies often have catty female friendships, it’s nice to see mature, real ones.

Jo Malone Candle: My friend got me a Jo Malone candle for my birthday and it smells so good. I keep it on my nightstand and burn it while I read at night. Mine is the Peony and Blush Suede scent and it smells just like walking through a garden or smelling a big bouquet of fresh flowers.

When Life Gives You Lululemons: My friend lent me her copy of When Life Gives You Lululemons. When Karolina Hartwell, a gorgeous former supermodel, is arrested for a DUI, she starts to fall from grace and her senator-husband leaves her with her son. Her childhood friend Miriam, a Harvard-educated lawyer and Miriam’s college friend Emily step in to help when they realize the DUI was a setup so her senator could quickly move on to his mistress, a president’s daughter. Emily is a public relations expert who has been having difficulty getting and keeping jobs since she quit working for Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine. (Yep, that Miranda Priestly, the book is by the author of The Devil Wears Prada.) It’s an easy read, but a fun one.
