5 Good Books: Volume 24

Here are a few books I read and enjoyed recently!

The Wife Between Us

The Wife Between Us: When you start reading, it seems like a jealous ex-wife is trying to sabotage her ex-husband’s wedding. But keep reading, and you’ll realize that there is much more to the story. This book kept me guessing until the very last page.

He’s Just Not That Into You: Earlier this year, I watched every single episode of Sex in the City and loved the scene where Berger tells Miranda that the guy she went on a date with is just not that into her. I also re-watched the movie because it is one of my favorites. After a string of my own not-so-great-dates and, yes, lots of analyzing with friends, I decided to read the book. There is some straightforward advice, and one big takeaway is that if someone wants to go out with you again or text you, they will even if it means searching Facebook for every single “Elana” because they don’t have your last name. If not, maybe he’s just not that into you and you should work on finding someone who knows how great you are I’m still working on that part.

Becoming: I really liked Michelle Obama’s book. It was so interesting to learn more about her childhood, relationship with President Obama, and life before the White House. And of course, I loved learning more about the behind-the-scenes of President Obama’s campaign and eight years in office.

One Day in December: Laurie sees someone waiting for the bus, and it’s love at first sight. She spends a year thinking about and searching for him until finally she finds him…when her best friend and roommate Sarah is introducing her to her boyfriend Jack. The book alternates between Jack and Laurie’s perspective on their friendship, feelings for each other, and relationships. It’s a fun read.

When the Lights Go Out: I loved Mary Kubica’s book The Good Girl, so I was excited for this one, but I was really disappointed. The book is about a young woman whose mom dies. She realizes that she has lived a secluded life and doesn’t know who she is, she doesn’t have a social security card or a birth certificate and her mother has never talked to her about her dad. The book alternates between her perspective and her mom’s. The book is repetitive and and tedious. I almost stopped reading it multiple times, but I still wanted to know how it all ended. I don’t recommend it at all.
