30 Day Challenge: Creating a Better Evening Routine

This month’s 30 Day Challenge is creating a better evening routine. Lately, I’ve been working late, going to events, getting together with friends, or spending at least three hours writing after work. I love waking up early and starting the day with a Sweat With Kayla workout…but it’s hard to do when I’ve been up until 2 or 3 am. I’ve also learned that I’m not someone who functions well without sleep. I need at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep to perform my best the next day.

When I did my Life Audit I learned that I like having time to unwind and relax after a long day. I’m going to focus on turning off my computer, putting my phone on the other side of my room, and curling up with a book.

Here’s what I’m going to do:

Set an Alarm:

I am really good at procrastinating going to sleep. And, oddly enough, excellent at procrastinating waking up…I’m going to set an alarm to start my evening routine at 10 pm so I can turn off the lights and fall asleep by 11:00 pm.

Light a Candle:

I absolutely love candles. My favorites are the  Aspen Bay Jar Volcano Candle and Voluspa Japonica Panjore Lychee Candle.

Make Tea:

I’ve been drinking Yogi Lemon Ginger tea with lemon juice and grated ginger.

Take a Hot Shower:

I bought some lavender body wash and essential oils to help me relax and unwind.

Read Before Bed:

I have always loved reading. My parent’s even call me Belle! I’ve been taking out library books as paper books or on the app. (When I read on my iPad, I turn it on Night Shift Mode.)

Avoid Technology:

I’m guilty of checking my email and social media on my phone right before hopping into bed, but I’m going to stop. I’ll just use my phone to set my alarm for the next day

Prep for the Next Day:

I pack lunch, my purse, and my gym bag the night before so getting ready in the morning is faster.

What are your favorite parts of your evening routine? I’d love your tips!
