Fitness Files: Pure Barre Review

You may be wondering, what the tuck is Pure Barre? Can I do it if I’m not a ballerina? Read my Pure Barre review to learn about my experience.

Pure Barre Review

The Workout: Pure Barre is a 55-minute ballet-inspired workout. It’s a total body workout that consists of a series of small isometric movements that target your abs, seat, thighs, and arms. A typical class consists of arm exercises with light weights, planks and pushups, exercises at the barre, an abs series, and stretching. The barre exercises include squats, pushups using the bar, leg lifts, thigh exercises where you squeeze the ball, and more. Each strength section is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscles. The only props are a mat, resistance band, weights, and a ball. Believe me, you’ll never look at a playground ball the same way again!

Wear / Bring: Wear what you’d normally wear to yoga. My favorite brands are Lululemon and Old Navy. You need to wear socks for the class. I highly recommend wearing sticky socks or these cool Nike wraps I keep seeing! They have all the props you need for class. They don’t have showers but they have bathrooms where you can change.

What to Expect: Your muscles will shake—but that’s a good thing because it means it’s working. When your body shakes, it means your muscles are getting to the point of fatigue. According to the site, “Your goal is to have the muscle group you are targeting during a specific section of class shake every time. After the shake, you will stretch, to elongate the muscles while they are warm and malleable. This leads to long, lean muscles!” I felt the workout the next day…but still came back. According to Pure Barre, you can see results in just 10 classes! For best results, you should take class 3-4 times per week. The instructors are encouraging and hands on, the studios are lovely, and the playlists are fun and upbeat. I went almost every day for two weeks and loved it.

Pure Barre on Columbus Avenue gave me a two week trial in exchange for a review. This is an honest review.
