House Crush: Above the Dunes, Nautical House on the Bay, and Lakeside Country House

I recently stumbled upon Austin Patterson Disston Architects and I am so glad that I did. The homes are sophisticated, classic, and beautiful. These are three of the beautiful homes featured on the site.

Above the Dunes: “This 10,000 square-foot house in the Hamptons is perched above the dunes overlooking the Atlantic. Our charge was to create a suitable plan for its owners, a retired couple, and their visiting children and grandchildren as well. They preferred the relaxed character of a Shingle Style house — one that provided as many water views and as much living space as possible. Our solution was to place living spaces and the master bedroom suite on the second floor, while the bedrooms, game room, movie room, and other secondary rooms are located on the first floor. Clean and bold trim systems combine with contemporary interiors to make this a vital environment for multiple generations.”

Nautical House on the Bay: “Like a ship looking out to sea, this new 3,800 square-foot Shingle Style house overlooks both Moriches Bay and a large marsh conservancy. Its many nautical references contribute to the shipboard feel: round windows, a compass floor inset, bead-board paneling, upper and lower porches. The house also features classic Shingle Style characteristics, neither grand nor pretentious, with a simplified trim system that reflects contemporary life.”

Lakeside Country House: “Set atop a picturesque lakeside property, this new 7,978 square-foot house on three levels meets our client’s desire for a stylistically restrained, comfortable residence for a growing family. The pleasing combination of English Country and American Shingle styles create a fitting context for the owner’s extensive collection of antiques. Details such as wide openings between rooms, transom windows, tray ceilings and wide plank wainscoting add to this relaxed yet classical home.”
